In 1907, Italian Swiss Colony opened a winery and vineyard in Lemoore, California, and hired Antonio Colussi as the manager. Antonio sent word back to his home town of Zoppola, Friuli, Italy, that he was hiring. His wife's first cousin Andrea Quattrin and Andrea's childhood friend and future brother-in-law Geremia Petris answered the call. This began the immigration of townspeople to Northern California. (Previously, immigrants from Zoppola had been headed to either Argentina or British Columbia.) Andrea and his siblings as well as Geremia's siblings became core members of the Friulano presence in San Francisco and Contra Costa counties and established our families here. These are their stories.
